GE Fanuc IC687BEM744 is a FIP bus controller, specially designed for the IC967 series PLC manufactured by GE Fanuc. It is one of four compatible FIP bus controllers and is a half-slot module. Because the module’s architecture has half-angle panels, it is very suitable for installation in an integrated rack. The half-slot module is functionally the same as the full-slot FBC. IC687BEM744 should be used with 2.5MHz WorldFIP network. Like the other four FIP bus controllers, IC687BEM744 supports TCP/IP communication in addition to general messaging compatibility and support. Please note that the FIP bus controller (such as IC687BEM744) cannot be installed in the PLC extension rack of the 90-70 PLC system. However, a single 90-70 PLC system can support up to four FIP bus controllers.
The IC687BEM744 is equipped with 6 LED’s to indicate status, a 15-pin serial connector RS-485 port, two 9-pin FIP Fieldbus connector channels, and a restart button. The 6 LED’s represent the following, from top to bottom: Module OK, Bus Arbiter, Carrier Detect Ch. 1, Transmit Enable Ch. 1, Carrier Detect Ch. 2, and Transmit Enable Ch. 2. The RS-485 port is used to easily connect your PC to the module for upgrading firmware. The restart button allows the user to restart the module or to reload software while simultaneously restarting the module. The two FIP Bus Connectors allows the IC687BEM744 to support redundant bus capabilities. It is important to never install or remove the module when power is applied to the system.
